Dr. Joseph S. Paul has worked at The University of Southern Mississippi for more than 40 years, spending the last 21 as vice president for Student Affairs. In February, Paul announced his retirement from the vice president's position, effective June 30, 2015.

In celebration of his service to Southern Miss, the Southern Miss Alumni Association will host a Retirement Roast in his honor on Friday, April 24, at 6 p.m. in the Thad Cochran Center Ballroom, located on the Hattiesburg campus of The University of Southern Mississippi.

“In his more than 40 years of service to the University, Dr. Paul has impacted thousands of Golden Eagles,” said Jerry DeFatta, executive director of the Southern Miss Alumni Association. “Those students have become alumni and continue to leave Southern Miss better than they found it, per his instruction. We're looking forward to roasting Dr. Paul in good humor, ultimately raising money for an endowment established in his name while celebrating the career of this dedicated Golden Eagle.”

The Alumni Association invites the University community to celebrate Paul in this retirement roast that will be an event to remember. Guests in attendance will experience the comedic witticisms of Roast Master Bob Pierce, vice president for advancement at Southern Miss.

In addition to a video by Paul's friend Tim Floyd, current head coach of the University of Texas at El Paso men's basketball team, roasters will include Jim Warren, managing partner in the law firm of Carroll, Warren and Parker; Todd Buchanan, senior vice president of AIG Valic Financial Advisors in Tampa, Fla.; Ryan Mouledous, president of Broadmoor LLC in New Orleans, La.; Jared Loftus, CEO of College District in Baton Rouge, La.; and Vince Fabra, education and training director for Phired Up Promotions in Charleston, S.C.

Presented by Regions Bank, tickets for the event are $50, and net proceeds will benefit the Dr. Joe Paul Society of 1910 Scholarship Endowment.
