Southern Miss Student Artwork Featured in Senior Show

The University of Southern Mississippi's Department of Art and Design is currently hosting the bi-annual Senior Show through Dec. 11 in the Gallery of Art and Design on the Hattiesburg campus. The art exhibit is free to the public and available to view in the gallery Monday-Friday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Four senior art and design majors will show their paintings and sculptures as part of their capstone class. Blake O'Brian of Gulfport, Miss. is displaying abstract figure drawings done in charcoal on paper; Kyla Clary, a native of Natchez, Miss. is displaying a body of figurative sculptures made with ceramic, steel, fiberglass and mixed media; Devin Fisher of Petal, Miss. is showing abstract figurative sculptures made of ceramic, wood and steel; and Aaron Murray of Vidalia, La. is displaying large scale sculptures made with stone and steel.
According to Assistant Professor Mark Rigsby, the Senior Show is the final capstone project required for all art and design majors pursuing a bachelor of fine arts degree in visual arts. The Senior Show is the culmination of 4 years or more of intensive study in the visual arts, and gives seniors the opportunity to present a final body of work in a professional gallery setting.
“In many ways this exhibition is a threshold or right of passage, and the beginning of their professional career as a practicing artist,” said Rigsby, director of the University's Museum of Art.
