Kristen Dupard and Jeremy Moore, students at The University of Southern Mississippi, have been selected to attend the 2015 Clinton Global Initiative University (CGIU), set for March 6-8 at the University of Miami.

Established in 2007, CGI University challenges college students to address global issues with practical, innovative solutions. Participants take concrete steps to solve problems by creating action plans, building relationships, participating in hands-on workshops, and following up with CGIU as they complete their projects.

Dupard, a junior biochemistry major from New Orleans, La., is a member of the Honors College, Luckyday Citizenship Scholarship Program and was recently selected into the 2014-2015 cohort of McNair Scholars at USM.

“CGIU affords us the opportunity to work with successful political leaders, celebrities and global difference makers to develop our ideas into realistic achievable goals,” Dupard said. “It progresses my college career because I am challenging myself in taking on this task and because it allows me to harness my leadership skills that I will need in my future medical and health policy endeavors.”

Dupard is involved in the Student Government Association Senatorial branch, N.A.A.C.P., Women in Science and Technology, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, National Association of Black Journalists and many other organizations. She also serves as a WUSM 88.5 Radio host, Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society secretary, student academic mentor and is a Luckyday Citizenship Scholar.

Moore, a junior double major in instrumental and choral music education from Prairie, Miss., is a Gates Millennium Scholar and was recently selected into the 2014-15 cohort of McNair scholars at USM. He is active in Men of Excellence, Afro-American Student Organization, Phi Mu Alpha, National Residence Hall Honorary, Resident Assistant Advisory Board, Southern Miss Opera and Theatre Company, the Southern Chorale and many other organizations.

“It is also a wonderful opportunity for me to represent my university with other scholars from all over the world,” Moore said. “I look forward to hearing great speeches, learning new things to implement in my life to help move me to the next level, and also just being able to interact with other like-minded individuals from across the globe. This is sure to be a very memorable experience.”
