USM Sport Management Program Ranked Among Nations Best

The Southern Miss program, administered through the College of Business, ranks No. 8 in the ratings. No other Mississippi college or university is ranked in the Top 20.

“The masters in Sport Management at Southern Miss is an exceptional program,” said Dr. Faye Gilbert, dean of the USM College of Business. “Our faculty prepare students to contribute to a field that they love. The curriculum is filled with the quality and relevance that are needed to manage the complexities of sports programs throughout the world.”

To evaluate each online program, used a complex methodology that compared academics, student experience, financial aid, and enrollment in the online masters in sports management program, resulting in a clear picture of the best offerings in the country.

Dr. Stacey A. Hall, associate professor in Sport Management, notes that today's sport industry needs highly trained professionals to meet the ever-changing economic and lifestyle growth patterns in tomorrow's marketplace. With the proliferation of both recreational and spectator sport, the Sport Management discipline is growing increasingly complex. Consequently, successful organizations in the sport industry are continually searching for tomorrow's leaders with specialized training.

“The Sport Management program at The University of Southern Mississippi provides such training in the forms of professional preparation for management and leadership positions with professional sport teams, intercollegiate and intramural athletics, recreation programs at colleges and universities, and amateur athletic organizations,” said Hall, who also serves as associate director of the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security at USM.
