Dr. Ann Blankenship

Dr. Ann Blankenship, an assistant professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and School Counseling at The University of Southern Mississippi, will participate in a live audience participation talk show to be streamed on Google+ page and You Tube Feb. 16 at 12:30 p.m. CST. This episode of “Café UCEA” will focus on the impact of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and be presented by the University Council for Educational Administration (UCEA).

Blankenship will be joined by the show's facilitator John Nash, an associate professor at the University of Kentucky, in discussing the devolution of power to the state and appropriate federal and state roles for incentivizing equity and building capacity following the implementation of the ESSA. The act was signed into law by President Obama in December 2015 and replaces the No Child Left Behind Act of 2002, which was widely criticized for being unworkable.

Blankenship earned her Ph.D. in Educational Administration and Policy from the University of Georgia in 2013.  Her research interests include education law, personnel issues in education, and equality of educational opportunity. Dr. Blankenship has presented research based on these themes at national conferences (AERA and ELA) and is currently associate editor-in-chief on the Education Law and Police Review. She also holds a Juris Doctorate from the University of Tennessee's College of Law.
