The Mississippi Gamma chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon will host its 11th annual Chili Cook-Off Saturday, Nov. 19 from 2:30-6 p.m. at Pete Taylor Park. All proceeds will benefit Extra Table and the USM Eagle's Nest.

Extra Table is a Hattiesburg-based non-profit agency that works in partnership with Sysco Corporation to get new, healthy food to soup kitchens and food pantries throughout the state of Mississippi. One of those pantries is the USM Eagle's Nest Food Pantry.

The Eagle's Nest, a student-run food pantry located on the Southern Miss Hattiesburg campus, is available to any Southern Miss student or staff member in need of food, hygiene items and school supplies.

Admission to the Chili Cook-Off is free and comes with three tickets to sample chili from the participating teams. There is also an option to purchase a $5 wristband for unlimited chili, a hot dog, and a drink. Kids under 12 will receive a free wristband and be able to enjoy unlimited chili.

In addition to the Chili Cook-Off, a Homerun Derby contest will take place in the Southern Miss Baseball Complex at Hill Denson Field. The cost to participate is $15 and includes 10 outs. The Southern Miss Dixie Darlings will open the event and will be available for pictures and autographs.

“We welcome everyone to join and support the men of Sigma Phi Epsilon, Extra Table, and the USM Eagle's Nest Food Pantry while enjoying chili, having fun and helping the south Mississippi area,” said Charles Childress, director of Greek Life at Southern Miss.

The entry fee for Chili Cook-Off teams is $50 and sponsorship levels for the event start at $100. Contact Travis Rogers at travis.rodgersFREEMississippi or call 228.343-0631 to enter a team and/or sponsor the event.
