DuBard School at Southern Miss Hosting Two Educational Events

DuBard School for Language Disorders at The University of Southern Mississippi is hosting two educational sessions for educators, parents and administrators this month including Conscious Discipline on Feb. 18 and Missing Links in Academics on Feb. 23-24.

Conscious Discipline is an evidence-based technique that integrates classroom management with social-emotional learning, turning everyday events into learning opportunities. Conflict can arise at any time, yet this program empowers adults to consciously respond using their own emotional intelligence as well as the child's. Teachers, administrators, counselors and parents can use skills taught in this program to learn how to respond to daily conflict, significantly improving the classroom setting for a superior learning environment.

The one-day overview will be taught by Donna Porter, a Conscious Discipline Certified Instructor, certified speech-language pathologist and retired classroom teacher, with a former student of hers, DJ Batiste, by her side.

Missing Links is designed for second to eighth-grade general and special education teachers, speech-language pathologists and reading specialists. The course covers techniques used in the DuBard Association Method®, including multisensory techniques for teaching the National Reading Panel five areas of reading, syllable types and division rules, and using morphemes as a way of increasing vocabulary knowledge.

Registration for Conscious Discipline is only $99 and must be completed by Feb. 5. Registration for Missing Links is $275 by Feb. 5, and $300 after. CEUs are available for both workshops.
