Free Housing Event, Homebuyer Education Class to be Held in Hattiesburg

In celebration of June as National Homeownership Month, a free community resource housing event has been set for Friday, June 3, from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the C.E. Roy Community Center at 300 East Fifth St., in Hattiesburg. A free homebuyer education class will be held Saturday, June 4, from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the C. E. Roy Community Center.

The University of Southern Mississippi Institute for Disability Studies' Home of Your Own (HOYO) program is partnering with BancorpSouth, BankPlus, Citizens National Bank, the City of Hattiesburg Office of State and Federal Programs, the Mississippi Center for Legal Services, The First Bank, Renaissance Corporation, Trustmark and USDA Rural Development to hold the event.

“This free housing event is for anyone interested in becoming a homeowner or for homeowners seeking assistance in preventing foreclosure,” said Cassie Hicks, director of housing at The University of Southern Mississippi Institute for Disability Studies. “Housing counselors and lenders will be available on site.” Refreshments will be served.

Anyone interested in buying a home can attend the free homebuyer education class to learn more about the homeownership process. Participants must register by June 1.
