Science Caf on the Coast Presents Oyster Aquaculture Nov. 9

Science Café on the Coast, a collaboration among The University of Southern Mississippi's Gulf Coast Library, Harrison County Library System, Long Beach Public Library and Hancock County Library System, will host “Oyster Aquaculture” Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Pass Christian Public Library.

“Oyster Aquaculture” will be presented by Dr. Bill Walton, an oyster aquaculture extension specialist for Mississippi-Alabama Sea Grant Consortium and an associate professor at Auburn University's School of Fisheries, Aquaculture and Aquatic Sciences. He is also a marine extension specialist for the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.

Working along the Gulf of Mexico at Auburn University's Shellfish Lab in Dauphin Island, Walton conducts applied research with local shellfish farmers, commercial and recreational shell fishermen, and national and local organizations. Before moving to the Gulf, he conducted similar work along the coast of Massachusetts.

The mission of Science Café on the Coast is to offer those with minimal background in science the chance to meet and discuss scientific issues in a relaxed social setting. Admission is free and open to the public.
