The University of Southern Mississippi's online master's degree program in nutrition and food systems has been ranked among the best programs in the nation by Affordable Colleges Online.

The Southern Miss online graduate program is ranked No. 9 on the list, which considers affordability, job placement and support services.

“For years, our students have benefited from the ability to continue to complete their master's degree while entering the workforce,” said Dr. Elaine Molaison, chair of the Department of Nutrition and Food Systems. “This ranking is proof of the hard work and commitment of all of our faculty to the success of our graduates.”

“It's great to have this validation of the quality of our online master's degree program,” said Dr. Kathy Yadrick, nutrition and food systems professor. “Our graduates have shared with us their satisfaction with its convenience, as well the ways in which the program enhanced their professional development.”

The online nutrition and food systems master's degree has two distinct emphases, dietetics practice and management of child nutrition programs. Both programs focus on advancing professional practice in nutrition and food systems-related disciplines. One emphasis focuses on nutrition and dietetics practice in clinical, community, and corporate settings, the other on managing school nutrition programs in the K-12 school setting.

“The dietetics practice emphasis is tailored for individuals with a nutrition and dietetics background, but the management of child nutrition programs emphasis is suitable for individuals with a background in business, K-12 education or hospitality and food service, as well as nutrition,” said Yadrick.
