The University of Southern Mississippi has been recognized as having one of the nation's top online master's in nutrition programs in rankings for 2016-17 by TopMastersinHealthcare.com. The USM program checked in at No. 13 on the list.

“It's great to have this validation of the quality and good value provided by our online master's degree program,” said Dr. Kathy Yadrick, professor and director of the online M.S. in Nutrition and Food Systems, Management of Child Nutrition Programs emphasis. “Our graduates have shared with us their satisfaction with its convenience, as well the ways in which the program enhanced their professional development.”

Yadrick points out that the Southern Miss program offers broad appeal to students.

“The dietetics practice emphasis is tailored for individuals with a nutrition and dietetics background, and the management of child nutrition programs emphasis is suitable for individuals with a background in business, K-12 education, or hospitality and food service, as well as nutrition,” she said.
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for registered dietitians (RDs) will markedly increase in the coming years. More specifically, the bureau expects the number of employed nutritionists and dietitians to grow by about 16% before 2024.
