More than 350 high school students are expected to participate in the kickoff event for The University of Southern Mississippi's 2016 Southern Entrepreneurship Program (SEP) on Thursday, Nov. 3 in Jackson.

The statewide event is designed to offer high school students from across the state an interactive introduction to the world of business development through an engaging combination of educational activities and guest appearances by young Mississippi-based entrepreneurs.

“The day's agenda is designed to help student participants identify business opportunities in their own backyards,” said James B. Wilcox, director of the Center for Economic and Entrepreneurship Education at USM. “Additionally, guest speakers will share the ups and down of their own entrepreneurial journeys, inspiring students through these real-world examples of the passion and sacrifice involved in business development.”

The Jackson State University Department of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management, along with Georgia-Pacific Leaf River Cellulose, LLC are serving as co-sponsors of the event.

Founded in 2007, the SEP is offered as an outreach initiative of USM's College of Business through its Center for Economic and Entrepreneurship Education. To learn more, call 601.266.6055 or visit:  www.theSEP.org. or https://www.usm.edu/business/economic-entrepreneurship-education
