Womens Safety Strategies Program set for Feb. 12 at Payne Center

The University of Southern Mississippi Marriage and Family Therapy Student Organization and Department of Child and Family Studies will host “50 Shades of Safe” Friday, Feb. 12 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Payne Center on the Hattiesburg campus. The program will feature presentations designed to help female students learn how to stay safe in a variety of situations, and will also serve as a research project conducted within the department.
Lori Fullbright, a two-time Emmy award-winning news anchor and crime reporter from Tulsa, Okla., will be the event's keynote speaker as well as a workshop presenter. She delivers crime safety presentations to men and women throughout Oklahoma. The event also includes presentations by the Shafer Center for Crisis Intervention, the Domestic Abuse Family Shelter, Inc., Greenhouse Yoga, and the USM Marriage and Family Therapy Program.
Members of the USM community, including the Student Counseling Center, Student Health Center, Title IX Office, Student Government Association and University Police will have information tables at the event. Part of this psychoeducational event includes a brief theatrical performance in partnership with the USM Theatre department to teach college women how to recognize the warning signs of a potentially dangerous relationship.
This event is open only to adult female college students, and its contents may be
disturbing to some attendees. Research components of the event have been approved
