Area III Special Olympics to be held June 10 at Southern Miss Gulf Park

The 2017 Mississippi Coast Area III Special Olympic Summer Games, hosted by the Institute for Disability Studies (IDS) at The University of Southern Mississippi, will be held Saturday, June 10, on the University's Gulf Park campus in Long Beach.

Approaching its third year on the Gulf Park campus, the Mississippi Coast Area III Special Olympic Summer Games will host more than 125 athletes on the beachfront campus. The event will be held near the University's Technology Learning Center, beginning at 9:15 a.m.

During the Olympics Games, athletes will have the opportunity to highlight their talents in both field and recreational sports, choosing one sport from soccer or softball and one from horseshoes or croquet.

“The Institute for Disability Studies-Gulf Park is excited to be hosting the Area III Mississippi Coast Special Olympics Summer Games for the third consecutive year,” said Dr. Rebekah Young, associate director of IDS. “We are committed to promoting inclusion and enhancing quality of life for all individuals with disabilities, and are proud to support Special Olympics and the opportunities it provides athletes and communities.”
