OLLI Programming Can Help Participants Meet 2017 Resolutions

The start of a new year is always a great time to start a new project or begin to learn something new. No matter your age or expertise, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at The University of Southern Mississippi has more than 100 seminars and courses scheduled this spring that just might help you keep your resolutions going strong all year long.

*Want to stay or get fit? Check out OLLI's wide array of exercise courses including Yoga, Tai Chi, Zumba, and Nia Dance and a number of our healthy cooking courses.

*Want guidance on ensuring your finances are in order? OLLI is hosting a number of courses on financial planning, including estate plans and navigating Social Security.

*Been dreaming of writing your story, building a better garden, or learning a new skill? Come take a class with published authors, master gardeners, technology specialists, and professional artists to turn your ideas into realities.

OLLI also offers classes in more than a dozen academic areas including art, history, music, politics, religion, and science. Esteemed faculty from Southern Miss, William Carey University, and other area experts share their time and talents with OLLI and allow members to explore topics such as the Mississippi River, air warfare in WWII, Hinduism, Painting on the Right Side of the Brain, Gopher Tortoises, interplay, social dance, the Revolutionary War, and the Civil Rights Movement, not to mention programs on influential and historical figures like Bob Dylan, Theodore Bilbo, Will Campbell, William Shakespeare and Charles Wesley.

OLLI has also planned trips to Camp Shelby, The Piney Woods School, La Pointe - Krebs House and Museum, Port of Gulfport, New Medinah Islamic Community, and to see performances by the USM Jazz Band and the Southern Miss Symphony Orchestra.

OLLI offers programming targeted toward individuals 50 years of age or older, with any level of education, working or retired. Learning at any age is fun and a great way to keep mind, body and, spirit healthy. Registration for the spring semester in Hattiesburg will begin Monday, Jan. 9.
