USM College of Health Recognizes Student Accomplishments

The University of Southern Mississippi's College of Health celebrated student success with its Student Awards Night held Thursday, April 6 at the Trent Lott Center on the Hattiesburg campus.

This annual event is an opportunity for each school and department in the college to recognize outstanding students for their academic accomplishments and service to the University and community.

Amelia Watson, College of Health Ambassador vice president, recognized senior ambassadors Zachary L. Agee, A. Larke Bickham, Ashley N. Coleman, Brooks M. Davis, Jasmen L. Fairley, Olivia H. Ismail, Elizabeth J. Jones, Danalycia M. Minor, Shani N. Nigh, Cara D. Scott, Brian A. Street, Mackenzie E. Thaxton, Madeline A. Thornton and Damian R. Washington for their service to the college.

Dr. Trent Gould, dean of the college, presented the Dean's Council Campus Leadership Award to Amelia R. Watson, the Dean's Council Community Service Leadership Award to Gabrielle M. Chamoun and the Dean's Council Research Award to Olivia H. Ismail. Gould also presented the Dean's Award for Academic Excellence to John P. Davenport.

In the School of Social Work, Cara D. Scott received the undergraduate Academic Excellence Award. Awards of Merit were presented to undergraduate students Jennifer N. Baker, Yolanda R. Clark, Rushie A. Clayton, Katelyn N. Herring, Anna M. Hibbard, Melody S. Hill, Jessica L. Holbold, Bethany K. Norris, Kelly R. Rigney, Cooper A. Robinson, Brittney K. Spence, Victoria E. Sumrall, Courtney J. Sumrell and Stephanie R. Wilkins. Master of Social Work students Holly D. Fedele, Jessica G. Koen and Megan R. Pritchard received Academic Excellence Awards.

Students honored from the Department of Nutrition and Food Sciences were Randall T. Mitchell as the Mississippi Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Nominee for Outstanding Dietetic Intern, Sara E. Foster as the Mississippi Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics Nominee for Outstanding Student in a Didactic Program in Dietetics, Sarah H. Newton as the Southern Miss Outstanding Dietetic Intern, Lindsay P. Anderson as the Outstanding Junior in Nutrition and Food Systems, Leea L. Fahnestock as the Outstanding Senior in Nutrition and Food Systems, Amandeep Kaur as the Outstanding Graduate Assistant in Nutrition and Food Systems and Kristen Adams as the Outstanding Master's Student in Nutrition and Food Systems.

In the Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences, the Peggy Revels Elward Outstanding Senior Award was presented to Rachel C. Rogers and The Helen Heidelberg Cullefer Memorial Audiology Award went to Stephen E. Williams. The Sertoma Outstanding Graduate Student award was awarded to Christina A. Santare in early oral intervention and Hailey O. Johnston in speech language pathology. The Speech and Hearing Sciences Outstanding Graduate Student awards went to Chelsea E. Butler in audiology, Shakeika K. Everett in early oral intervention and Caroline A. Little in speech language pathology.

Students honored from the Department of Public Health were Demeko E. Bivens with the Undergraduate Service Award and Destinee M. Bigham and Jasmin N. Sparkman with the Outstanding Undergraduate Scholarship Award. The Lynn Cook Hartwig Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award was presented to Flenard McLin, the Outstanding Master of Public Health Research Award went to Shalonda L. Collins and the Alton B. Cobb Outstanding Master of Public Health Award was presented to Myra G. Miller and Samantha S. Wells.

The School of Kinesiology presented awards for outstanding scholarship and distinguished leadership in each of its programs. In athletic training, the Outstanding Scholarship Award went to Raymond L. Burnett, and the Distinguished Leadership Award was presented to Emily Anne Smith.

In exercise science, the Outstanding Scholarship Award was presented to Nathaniel T. Horton, and the Distinguished Leadership Award went to Alex E. Carlson. In kinesiotherapy, the Outstanding Scholarship Award went to Raven M. Gutierrez, and the Distinguished Leadership Award was presented to Brady C. Boleware.

In physical education, the Outstanding Scholarship Award went to James T. Fox, III, and the Distinguished Leadership Award was presented to John D. Bullock. In therapeutic recreation, the Outstanding Scholarship Award was presented to Erin E. McKee, and the Distinguished Leadership Award went to Tamara L. Wright.

In sport coaching, the Outstanding Scholarship Award went to Loren D. O'Dell, and the Distinguished Leadership Award was presented to Lauren E. Holifield.

Overall, the School of Kinesiology awarded the Outstanding Undergraduate Scholarship Award to John P. Davenport, the Distinguished Undergraduate Leadership Award to A. Larke Bickham, the Outstanding Master's Student Award to Carlos H. Moreno and the Outstanding Doctoral Student Award to Edward T. Kelley.
