USM Nursing Instructor Geisz-Everson Elected to Distinguished Fellowship

Dr. Marjorie Geisz-Everson, assistant professor and interim director of the Nurse Anesthesia Program in The University of Southern Mississippi College of Nursing, has been elected to Distinguished Fellowship of the National Academies of Practice (NAP) in Nursing.
Geisz-Everson will be officially inducted during the NAP Annual Meeting & Forum, set for March 17-18 in Philadelphia, Pa. All inductees will receive a prized NAP medallion.
“I am humbled to be part of such a prestigious group of interdisciplinary leaders who lead the change in healthcare policy and promote high quality healthcare for all,” said Geisz-Everson. “The USM College of Nursing has so many distinguished faculty members, and I am proud to be part of the team.”
Southern Miss became the first among Mississippi's eight institutions of higher learning to offer a degree-granting nurse anesthesia curriculum when the program was launched in January, 2013. Geisz-Everson played an instrumental role in developing the program. Twenty students were originally selected as part of the inaugural class. In December of 2015, 18 students completed the rigorous program.
A Distinguished Practitioner, Scholar or Policy Fellow within NAP is a high honor that acknowledges outstanding achievements. Inductees are recognized leaders in their profession and colleagues within other academies of NAP acknowledge the inductee's ability to help establish and lead the new academy.
Current outstanding healthcare leaders and practitioners of NAP are working together as an interdisciplinary force to influence national health policy, legislation, and promote quality healthcare through cooperative advocacy, practice, education and research.
