USM Students Will See One Eatery Close, Another Open

As the spring 2017 semester comes to an end, students at The University of Southern Mississippi will notice two key changes in dining on the Hattiesburg campus.

“A Stone's Throw”, located next to Wilber Hall, will permanently close on April 26. However, an additional dining venue will be added on campus. Freshens Fresh Food Studio located in the newly inaugurated Asbury Hall across from the University's Greek Village will offer customizable menu items and is expected to open over the summer.

“Closing Stone's Throw was a difficult decision with the closure of the old residence halls, the operation was no longer viable. We do plan to move some menu favorites over to The Power House,” said Gavin Moon, Executive Director of Eagle Dining. “On the upside, we are very excited about Freshens going into Asbury Hall and feel confident that it will be a popular location for students, faculty & staff and visitors.”

Retail Locations and Dining Facilities Updates:

  • New concept Freshens will provide customizable options such as crepes, smoothies and rice bowls, adding much more variety to the dining portfolio. Freshens will be located in the nursing building, Asbury Hall and is scheduled to open by summer.
  • Starbucks “We Proudly Brew” will also be a part of the nursing building dining addition. This concept will serve a variety of specialty drinks and pastries.
  • Eagle Dining plans to enhance the dining experience in the Fresh Food Company by adding a hot Vegan Station starting this fall along with new menus items.
  • Power House's menu will undergo changes to bring new items based on student feedback for fall 2017 semester.
