USM's Coastal Operations to Close at 2 p.m.

Due to winter weather conditions, USM's coastal operations at the Gulf Park campus in Long Beach, Gulf Coast Research Laboratory in Ocean Springs, and Stennis Space Center in Hancock County will close at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8.
USM's Hattiesburg operations are also currently closed. The 3 p.m. Commencement ceremony is expected to proceed as scheduled.
Mississippi Department of Transportation recommends the following when traveling in winter weather conditions:
- Slow down. Should winter weather conditions become present, “black ice” can form.
- Allow more space between your vehicle and the one in front of you.
- Brake early and gently to avoid skidding, and never slam on the brakes.
- Avoid distractions, such as talking or texting on a cell phone.
- Stay alert.
