First-year USM students will be moving into residence halls on the Hattiesburg campus today (Aug. 24) and Saturday, Aug. 25. Media coverage is welcome. The schedule is as follows:

Friday, Aug. 24

  • Century Park South, Wilber Hall, Mississippi Hall, and Hattiesburg Hall – 7:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

Saturday, Aug. 25

  • Century Park North, Hillcrest Hall, and McCarty Hall – 7:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m.

SPECIAL NOTE: The annual painting of Eagle Walk beneath the east side section of “The Rock” will be held from 4:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 26. To schedule coverage, contact Van Arnold or David Tisdale.

USM Hub Dance Collective Opens School Year with Special Performance

As a way to open the 2018 fall semester at The University of Southern Mississippi, the Hub Dance Collective (HDC) will perform “Meet Me Again,” Aug. 30-31 at 7:30 p.m. in the Theatre and Dance Building, Studio 115 on the Hattiesburg campus. The dances explore emotional journeys through metaphors of movement and environment.

USM psychology Professor Michael Madson, an expert on substance abuse prevention and treatment, has authored an opinion piece focusing on how language and labels associated with substance abuse play such a predominant role in the stigma of addiction.
