Pride of Mississippi Marching Band Preview Set for Aug. 31

The University of Southern Mississippi's Pride of Mississippi Marching Band and the Dixie Darlings are ready to kick off the 2018-19 football season with the annual Pride Preview performance.

This free concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday Aug. 31 at Centennial Lawn on the Southern Miss Hattiesburg campus, prior to Friday Night at the Fountain.

Recording Industry Faculty Member Returns from Fulbright in Estonia

Students in the Recording Industry program at The University of Southern Mississippi will get a fresh perspective on the field in the fall 2018 semester, with the return of Dr. Jonathan Pluskota from his 11-month Fulbright Scholar experience in Estonia. Pluskota, an assistant professor in the School of Communication, spent the past academic year teaching and researching sound engineering at the University of Tartu Viljandi Culture Academy.

A new exhibit on display at USM's Cook Library -- Timber and Lumber in Mississippi -- traces the development of the industries, and, in a way, Mississippi itself. Materials highlighted in the exhibit come from the S. G. Thigpen Papers, the Dr. Gilbert H. Hoffman Papers and Research Collection, various photographic collections, and state published documents. The display will be available through September 28 on the first floor of Cook Library during regular library hours. To schedule coverage, contact Van Arnold or David Tisdale.
