The University of Southern Mississippi School of Music presents the Guest Artist Series featuring Dr. Alan Huckleberry, piano, on Friday, Oct. 19. This free recital is open to the public at 7:30 p.m. in Marsh Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus.

Dr. Huckleberry will also present a free masterclass for piano students on Saturday, Oct. 20 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Marsh. This event is also open to the public.

Huckleberry, Professor of Piano at the University of Iowa, will perform Frederic Rzewski's The People United Will Never Be Defeated! in his “Searching for a United US Musical Voice” recital.

His performance at USM is one of many planned throughout the United States. In his recital, Huckleberry will add a visual element by projecting images related to human rights. Topics will include women's rights, black lives matter, our government, social media, and society in general.

According to Huckleberry, “Rzewski's The People United Will Never Be Defeated! is a variation set of epic proportions and epic difficulty, [which] has found new meaning in today's political and social environment in the United States.”

Praised for his “impeccable musicianship, exhilarating technique, and panache” by the American Record Guide, pianist Dr. Alan Huckleberry is recognized as a multi-faceted artist on the classical music scene. He has performed both in recitals and as a soloist with orchestras in Germany, England, Czech Republic, Italy, Austria, Spain, France, Costa Rica, Colombia, and across the United States.
