Five sports security professionals under the age of 40 will be recognized for their leadership in addressing safety and security issues as part of the 2018 National Sports Safety and Security Conference & Exhibition on July 9-12 in Louisville, KY.

This year's theme is Enhancing Situational Awareness in the Sports Safety and Security Industry. More than 400 security professionals and 60 vendor exhibits are expected for the national conference.

The presentation of the “Industry Leader's Under 40 Award” will take place on the second day of the ninth annual conference, which is hosted by the National Center for Spectator Sports Safety and Security (NCS4) at The University of Southern Mississippi. This year the award is sponsored by GeoComm, a leading provider in public safety GIS systems and software.

“The Industry Leader Under 40 award is an opportunity for professional leagues, NCAA member institutions, marathon organizations, and interscholastic athletic programs to recognize and honor high-performing individuals that have gone above and beyond in their efforts to enhance safety and security.” said NCS4 Director Dr. Lou Marciani. “Their contributions make a difference in the quality of the fan experience by providing a safe and secure environment, going beyond what is normally required, and setting an example for other aspiring young professionals to follow.”

Marciani noted that each league or organization selects the criteria and makes the determination as to which professional will be recognized. Those being recognized include the following:

  • Aaron Nemzer, Director of Events, DMSE Sports, Inc. (Road Race/Endurance Events)
  • Sean Barus, Director of Operations, Chicago Event Management (Road Race/Endurance Events)
  • Tamica Hill, School Resource Officer, Lamar County School District (Interscholastic Advisory Committee)
  • Rebecca Wilusz, Duke University (NCAA)
  • Michael Fogel, Security Manager, AT&T Stadium (NFL)
