The group BHZ will perform as part of the Guest Artist Series on Sept. 17.

The University of Southern Mississippi School of Music will feature Mark Zanter, along with Brigid Burke and Steve Hall, as a free Guest Artist Series performance on Sept. 17, at 8 p.m. in Marsh Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus. They will premiere a new four movement work for oboe and electronics commissioned by Dr. Richard Kravchak entitled “Recycle+Shuffle+Repeat”.

Zanter is part of a trio of improvisers who create music and video in performance. Fully formed in 2015 as BHZ (their initials of their last names), the trio strives for a different style of music with their unique electro-acoustic sound. The group has performed internationally and has recorded their first album, Total Harmonic Distortion.

“Dr. Mark Zanter is one of the most exciting musical artists, thinkers, and performers on the scene today,” said Director of the School of Music Dr. Richard Kravchak. “His multimedia performances are an amalgam of art music, jazz, and electronica, often in tandem with creative and innovative video images.”

Zanter's work is an outstanding example of the possibilities of interdisciplinary creativity in the visual and performing arts.
