The University of Southern Mississippi School of Music presents a Guest Artist Series event featuring pianist Dr. Joel Schoenhals on Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. in Marsh Auditorium on the Hattiesburg campus. Dr. Schoenhals will also present a free masterclass on Oct. 9 from 1:15-2:45 p.m. in Marsh. Both are free and open to the public.

The program will feature Brahms character pieces.

Dr. Schoenhals is Professor of Piano at Eastern Michigan University currently holding a Doctoral of Musical Arts, a Master of Music, and a Performer's Certificate from the Eastman School of Music. In Fall 2016, Schoenhals launched the Bach-Brahms Project, a two-year, four-concert series featuring the complete Partitas of Johann Sebastian Bach and character pieces of Johannes Brahms.

Recent recordings by Schoenhals have garnered critical praise. Fanfare noted, “….consummate technical skill and polish. Schoenhals' tonal palette is massively varied.”
