The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) is set to feature artist Stacey Johnson demonstrating and lecturing on Monday, Sept. 10 from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. at the 3D Arts Building on the Hattiesburg campus. Admission for the lecture is free.

Johnson is an artist who draws inspiration for her sculptures from the Delta of Mississippi where she grew up. From these inspirations and with red clay, she sculpts feminine figures that tell stories and represent traditional boundaries of gender, heritage, and sexuality.

“Through my sculptural narrative, I answer questions and tell tales. I explore my medium and let it have a voice,” says Johnson.. “My exploration and acceptance of living through art is necessary for closing doors, so that others may be opened.”

Johnson's sculptures have been featured at many exhibitions across the United States. Recently, her works have been featured in “Feel the Heat” and “Run to the Woods” at the Hall-Barnett Gallery in New Orleans, LA.

This event is presented in part by the generous support of Partners for the Arts. For more information please email allen.chenFREEMississippi.
