The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Center for Writers program presents The Visiting Writer Series with Ada Limón on Sept. 19 at 7:30 p.m. in the Liberal Arts Building (LAB), room 108 on the Hattiesburg campus. The event is free and open to the public.

Ada Limón is the author of five books of poetry, including Lucky Wreck, This Big Fake World, and Sharks in the Rivers. Her poetry book Bright Dead Things was named a finalist for the 2015 National Book Award in Poetry, a finalist for the Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award, a finalist for the 2016 National Book Critics Circle Award, and one of the Top Ten Poetry Books of the Year by The New York Times.

“We are delighted to host Ada Limón again,” said Associate Professor of English Dr. Luis Iglesias. “Her award-winning books showcase her talent and the richness of her diverse voice.”

Limón currently serves on the faculty of Queens University of Charlotte Low Residency M.F.A. program, and 24Pearl Street online program for the Provincetown Fine Arts Work Center. She also works as a freelance writer in Lexington, Kentucky. Her new collection, The Carrying, was recently released by Milkweed Editions in August.

“The Visiting Writers series is a dynamic opportunity for students to not only hear from nationally recognized authors but also to directly engage with these writers in these unique workshops,” said Dr. Iglesias.
