USM to Present Tennessee Williams Night of the Iguana

The University of Southern Mississippi Theatre Program presents Night of the Iguana, a play by Tennessee Williams on Oct. 18, 19, 23, and 24 at 7:30 p.m. and on Oct. 21 at 2 p.m. in the Hartwig Theatre on the Hattiesburg campus. The event is ticketed.

Night of the Iguana is considered by many to be the last of the great plays by Tennessee Williams who had also created masterpieces A Streetcar Named Desire and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

“Tennessee Williams strove to tell stories that captured humankind's need for each other,” said director and 3^rd year MFA Directing student Shannon Bain. “Williams was a master storyteller, and if you didn't have the privilege of knowing that already, you definitely will.”

Set in the 1940s at the Costa Verde hotel in Mexico, Night of the Iguana explores the relationship between people looking for their sanctuary, exploring themes such as finding peace and incompleteness.

“The play explores human beings in moments of isolation,” said Acting graduate student Lauren Gunn. “It asks questions about our treatment of other people's pain, how we find community, and how we might face the challenges that life often puts in our path.”

Price of admission is $15 for general public; $10 for faculty, staff, seniors, and military; and $8 for students. Tickets will be available at the door as well as at www.southernmisstickets.com.
