USM Presents Inaugural Season of Emerging Artist Series Nov. 13-16

The University of Southern Mississippi presents the inaugural season of the Emerging Artist Series on Nov. 13-16 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hartwig Theatre on the Hattiesburg campus.

Theatre is storytelling. For this lighthearted event, the student cast brings explorations of stories from around the world that evoke nighttime in this “Festival of Night”.

The performances focus on comedy with Commedia dell'arte (slapstick comedy that goes back to the 15th Century) and exciting hybrid theatre forms of Chamber Theatre and Physical Theatre. These forms, not common for mainstage Theatre seasons, allow for actor-driven experimentation, creating an adventurous and unique performance.

“We have a universal need as humans to gather in community through dance, song, and storytelling,” said Professor Monica Hayes. “Across cultures and continents, stories of origin, mythology, and mystery pass from generation to generation.”

Tanner Rushing, a senior BFA in Acting, said, “The process of creating this show has been the most collaborative, freeing, and challenging thing we have ever done.”

Price of admission is $15 for the general public; $10 for faculty, staff, seniors, and military; and $8 for students. Tickets will be available at the door and at www.southernmiss.tickets.com.
