School of Education Students inducted into Kappa Delta Pi May 2

The University of Southern Mississippi's (USM) Theta Gamma Chapter of the international honor society in education, Kappa Delta Pi, inducted students into the organization during a ceremony held at the Thad Cochran Center on the Hattiesburg campus May 2. USM School of Education Director Dr. Sandra Nichols served as keynote speaker for the event.

This year's initiation class, which totals 46, represents the largest for the chapter in more than 12 years. Initiates include the following USM education students:

Ashtin Beasley; Alexis Bexley; Ericka Black; Jaime Bowden; Anaclair Brewer; Tiffany Bunch; Leanne Carr; Jennifer Casper; Ashley Chapman; Lauren Courville; Tessa Crump; Mandy Dement; Misty Evans; Ashley Fairley; Jessica Garner; Jillian Hallstrom; Delta Havard; Gracyn Head; Savannah Herty; Felicia Holden; Kristen Holmes; Erin Holtzberger; Kimberly Ingram; Shelby Irby; Victoria Jenkinson; Hope Jones; Heather Jordan; Lamonica Jordan; Jennifer Kluppel; Christine Lawson; Katelyn Martin; Marissa McDonald; Hayes McGregor; Kayla Mosley; Ann Marie Norris; Madison Rakinic; Jasmine Richardson; Hannah Robert; Savannah Rogers; Hope Saucier; Morgan Shavers; Ashley Smith; Keri Summerlin; Nikki Ward; Madelynne Williamson; and Haylee Windham.

Kappa Delta Pi was founded in 1911 at the University of Illinois to foster excellence in education, advance scholarship, leadership, and service, and promote fellowship among those dedicated to teaching; USM's chapter began in 1954. Initiates must have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 and a commitment to education as a career.

“Our initiates participated in the same ceremony as Albert Einstein, George Washington Carver, and Eleanor Roosevelt when they were initiated,” said Dr. Anne Sylvest, director of the school's education field experiences, who serves as sponsor for the chapter. “We're delighted to induct our students into this prestigious organization.”
