Economic trends and forecasts will be the focal point for the Economic Outlook 2019 Forum hosted by The University of Southern Mississippi on Thursday, Feb. 14 at the Thad Cochran Center on USM's Hattiesburg campus.

The USM College of Business and Economic Development, along with the Trent Lott National Center, is coordinating the annual forum that brings together experts from banking, finance, and academia to explore a number of issues and research related to the economic outlook for 2019.

The forum, sponsored by The First  - A National Banking Association, is set for 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. at USM's Thad Cochran Center ballroom. The event is free but seating is limited. Lunch will be provided.

“USM's partnership with The First in hosting the Economic Forum has become a cherished tradition in which we have a chance to set priorities and goals for 2019 and beyond based upon the state of the economy,” said Dr. Shannon Campbell, director of the Trent Lott Center. “The Economic Forum targets business, academic, financial and other professionals who use the economic data shared during the forum as a tool for leadership decisions.”

“The Economic Outlook forum continues to grow every year, and we expect another large turnout,” said M. Ray “Hoppy” Cole, President & CEO, The First, A National Banking Association. “It gives us an opportunity to visit with people from the Gulf South region, to find out what is going on and how our company can be of service. We believe the conference gives those in attendance a solid foundation of economic expectations upon which to plan the upcoming year.”

Guest speakers include:

  • Adrienne Slack, Vice-President and Regional Executive with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, New Orleans Branch
  • Darrin Webb, State Economist for Mississippi
