The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) Theatre program 2019-2020 season promises to be packed with exciting projects and plays that will entertain audiences of all ages.

Beginning the 2019-2020 season is American playwright August Wilson's Gem of the Ocean in October. Directed by Amanda Washington, this drama is about a man's spiritual journey in search of a new life.

Later in the season is the classic Guys and Dolls, from writers Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows. Directed by Louis Rackoff, Guys and Dolls is a delightful musical comedy that involves high-stakes and love.

Wolves, by Sarah DeLappe and with direction by Caitlyn Herzlinger, is set for November. This new play illustrates a girls' soccer team season as the students deal with teenage angst, death, but ultimately perseverance.

Continuing the season in the spring is Ah, Wilderness in February. By Eugene O'Neill and directed by Louis Rackoff, this comedy is a charming coming-of-age story that centers around a typical family in the turn-of-the-century America.

Robert Icke's own take on Oresteia is the next play in the line-up. This fresh spin on the Greek tragedy directed by Sam Buchanan still features the vicious revenge cycle that made the original play famous.

Closing the 2019-2020 season is Metamorphoses by Mary Zimmerman and with direction by Amanda Washington. Metamorphoses is a series of sketches of various Greek mythologies.

“The 2019-2020 season will be highly theatrical and entertaining,” said Professor Louis Rackoff. “It's a celebration of the incredible work of everyone in the department and of our relationship with our audiences.”

Gem of the Ocean, Wolves, and Oresteia will be held in Hartwig Theatre. Guys and Dolls; Ah, Wilderness; and Metamorphoses will be located in Tatum Theatre.
