USM Waives Test Scores for Fall Admission

The Office of Admissions at The University of Southern Mississippi announced this week that ACT and SAT test scores would be temporarily waived for high school seniors applying for fall 2020 admission, in order to help students who may have difficulty testing during the COVID-19 outbreak.

“It’s our hope that by waiving this requirement for a short period of time, it will alleviate some of the burden students may have associated with obtaining score reports from ACT and SAT and keep them moving in a positive direction with their plans to attend college in the fall,” Dean of Admissions Kate Howard said.

Students who have a 3.2 core high school GPA will be admissible without test scores; however, all students, regardless of GPA, will have to submit scores by August 24, 2020, in order to determine course placement. Allowing students additional time to provide scores without holding up admissibility will allow students and families to better plan for enrollment for the fall semester.

“We know this is a difficult time for students, who should be celebrating graduation and all of the excitement that comes with transitioning from high school to college. We hope this makes their college decision easier, and we are looking forward to welcoming a new class into the Southern Miss family very soon,” Howard said.

Howard explained this new policy will not affect scholarships since the scholarship deadlines have already passed. More details are available at: https://www.usm.edu/undergraduate-admissions/admissions-requirements.php
