USM Researcher's Device Aims to Prevent Respiratory Complications from Ventilators in COVID-19, ICU and Surgery Patients
Mechanical ventilation is a life-saving treatment, but it can also introduce complications to a hospital patient’s treatment plan. Saliva can likely to pool in the endotracheal tube connected to a patient’s ventilator, which may lead to a host of problems, including bacterial infections and pneumonia.
Three long term health care facilities in the Pine Belt are better equipped to protect residents and employees in the face of COVID-19 thanks to a partnership between The University of Southern Mississippi’s Mississippi Polymer Institute (MPI) and worldwide chemical manufacturer Oxiteno.
