RDTE Training Opportunities
Welcome to the current listing of training sessions available through ORSD. These opportunities are designed to strengthen research development skills and provide practical tools for faculty and staff. Each listing includes key details such as dates, times, and links to join or register. Faculty and researchers are encouraged to review these offerings regularly and participate to enhance their research success.

Location: Virtual via Microsoft Teams
Overview: Learn how to navigate GrantForward to identify funding opportunities and customize searches for your research needs. A new topic will be introduced each Tuesday and repeated Thursday.

Part One: Engaging Inquiry to Develop a Powerful Idea
Date: Tuesday, December 16, 2025
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Location: EHH 120 and Teams (Hybrid)
Details: This fast-paced, 3-hour session will guide participants through the Six Critical Questions framework to transform ideas into impactful research concepts. Individual work and
interactive discussions will provide clarity, insights, and actionable next steps.
The interdisciplinary approach fosters collaboration and innovation.
Note: We strongly encourage attending both sessions for the best experience. If you plan to attend Part Two without Part One, please ensure you are working on an active proposal and contact your assigned ORA Contracts and Grants staff member prior to attending.
Part Two: The Proposal Writing Retreat
Date: Friday, January 30, 2026
Time: 8:30 – 11:30 a.m. & 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Location: The Writing Center, Cook Library, Hattiesburg Campus
(In-person only)
Details: Building on December’s workshop, this retreat offers focused time and expert
support to refine your research pitch. Participants will work on crafting a compelling
project summary aligned with sponsor priorities. Writing Center staff will assist
with style and clarity, while ORSD staff provide strategic guidance. The goal: a polished
one-page summary ready for Program Officer feedback.
