In today's business environment of rapid change and intense competition, the human resources (HR) function is vital to the success of every organization. The Human Resources Management program at Southern Miss prepares students to take on professional HR positions within organizations to do the following: 

  • Recruit and select the talent needed for an effective workforce
  • Develop existing staff to optimize performance and employee outcomes
  • Develop and implement a compensation and benefits structure that fits with the overall strategy of the organization
  • Identify the skills and abilities needed for future leaders of the organization
  • Serve as an employee advocate to improve workplace culture and retention
  • Ensure adherence to and compliance with workplace laws, including anti-discrimination laws and wages and hour laws

The College of Business and Economic Development is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).

Study Abroad Programs

Students are encouraged to consider studying abroad! In fact, many business students are awarded study abroad scholarships to assist with the expense of attending study abroad programs. Southern Miss Business faculty lead three programs: British Studies, Asian Studies, and Italian Studies.

Army Personnel Transfer Credit

The Human Resources Management program will accept some hours as transfer credit from a Joint Services Transcript for Army personnel. This applies to the Military Occupational Specialty Code of 42A 20, 42A 30, or 42A 40 only. For further information about the number of hours of credit and how this will apply to a student's degree plan, please contact the Human Resources Management program coordinator, Mr. Russ Willis, at russ.willisFREEMississippi.
