Earn Your Degree in Sport Management
Globally, sports represent a $400-$600 billion-dollar industry. Forbes has estimated a 20% increase in the US alone in the past five years, $60.5B to $73.5B, making it one of the fastest-growing industries in the US.
Our program immerses students into the industry, combining traditional classroom instruction with hands-on experience. Students receive professional training from industry leaders in preparation for management positions with professional sport teams, intercollegiate/intramural athletics, recreation programs at colleges/universities, and more.
The College of Business and Economic Development is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB).
What Will I Learn?
The curriculum is designed to enable students to acquire and demonstrate a set of management skills and an understanding of sport industry issues through a combination of required business core courses, sport management-specific courses, and experiential components.
Students will get the opportunity to work with and participate in experiential learning with organizations including Southern Miss Athletics, Biloxi Shuckers, Mississippi Braves, Sanderson Farms, Landmark Event Services, Aramark, Swetman Security Services, and NCS4.
Students must receive a C or above in all major area classes. In addition, all students are required to complete a practicum and internship experience, which gives students the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts taught in the classroom while gaining practical experience with current professionals in the field of sport management. While taking the three-hour course, students are required to earn 120 hours of field experience.
