Service Description

We provide services related to requests, activations, service changes and repairs. Services include: Virtual Private Network (VPN), wired access and wireless access.


Services Offered


This network is for all USM faculty, Staff, and Students. Guest from reciprocating eduroam institutions may also access this network for unrestricted Internet access. This network has no connection timeouts and bandwidth is unrestricted.

How to Activate "eduroam" Wireless Network
Faculty, Staff and Students can connect devices to the "eduroam" wireless network by following these simple steps:

  1. Select the "eduroam" network.
  2. User name: (ex:

USM Public

This network is for unaffiliated visitors. There are restrictions that limit the bandwidth to 2Mbps, requires users to acknowledge terms and conditions through a web browser when connecting, and comes with a 4-hour session timeout.


Guest Access Network 

This network will only be available for individuals/departments who provide written justification detailing their need for higher band width. The below charges will apply:

    • $10 - 1 day access (24 hours)
    • $15 - 3 day access (up to 3 days)
    • $20 - 2 week access (up to 14 days)
    • $35 - Monthly access

Guest Access justification requests may be submitted by entering a iTech Work Order and must be provided at least 5 business days prior to date of service.  Requests that do not provide prior notice of 5 business days will be denied.

Students in Residence Halls: Instructions on how to connect gaming or mobile device to the USM wireless network.

Students with gaming devices - Students will use SOAR to enter devices and the MAC address for each device.



The Southern Miss network is available 24/7, except for scheduled maintenance periods.
