Miss Mississippi Hannah Roberts, a recent University of Southern Mississippi graduate, has been named a finalist in both the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) scholarship competition and Quality of Life category at the Miss America Pageant.

The University of Southern Mississippi's Department of Dance will host the 4th annual Mississippi Dance Festival (MDF) Sept. 11-13. The event will be held at the Theatre and Dance building on the Hattiesburg campus. This year's guest artist is DeShona Pepper Robertson of the Stivers School for the Art in Dayton, Ohio.
The Office of the Vice President for Research and the Center for Undergraduate Research at The University of Southern Mississippi hosted a reception Aug. 21 recognizing the fall 2015 class of Eagle Scholars. The faculty recipients of the 2015 Donald Drapeau Undergraduate Mentorship Award were also honored.
The University of Southern Mississippi was well represented by its Department of English at the inaugural Mississippi Book Festival in Jackson Aug. 22. Attended by more than 3,500 literary enthusiasts, the festival featured celebrated writers such as John Grisham and Bill Ferris. Guests visited exhibitor tents on the grounds of the Capitol and attended presentations at the festival, which was a weekend feature on C-SPAN.
