Get ready to celebrate Earth Week 2024 with the Southern Miss Office of Sustainability!

From April 22nd through April 26th, join us for a week-long extravaganza dedicated to promoting environmental awareness and sustainability practices. Participants in our events and games may have the chance to win exciting prizes from Moore’s Bike Shop, Subway, Papa John’s Pizza, and T-Bones.  Let's come together to celebrate and protect the beautiful planet we call home!

Campus Cleanup

Friday, April 19th, 1 pm – 2 pm

Join forces with Innova Preparatory School, the Office of Sustainability, and the Eco Ambassadors for a campus-wide clean-up event! Let's come together to beautify our surroundings and make a positive impact on the environment. Grabbers, gloves, and bags will be provided to ensure a safe and effective clean-up operation. Whether you're a student, faculty member, or community member, everyone is welcome to participate in this meaningful initiative. Let's roll up our sleeves and show our commitment to keeping our campus clean and green! 

Outdoor Yoga

Monday, April 22nd, 12 pm – 1 pm at Spirit Park

Join us for an invigorating outdoor yoga class at Spirit Park, sponsored by the Office of Sustainability and Recreational Sports! Embrace the beauty of nature as you stretch, breathe, and connect with your body and the environment around you. This is not just a chance to get some exercise and fresh air, but also an opportunity to reflect on the choices we can make to reduce our impact on the planet. After the class, enjoy a delicious lunch provided by us (while it lasts)!  Don't miss out on this holistic experience that nourishes both body and mind. See you there! 

Fun with Ham Radio’s

Earth Fair

Join us for an Earth Fair extravaganza where campus organizations and community partners unite to share their environmental messages and sustainable ideas. From eco-conscious initiatives to innovative solutions, explore a diverse range of exhibits aimed at inspiring positive change and fostering a greener future. Whether you're passionate about recycling, renewable energy, or wildlife conservation, there's something for everyone to learn and engage with. Community and Teaching Garden Workshop

Thursday, April 25, 12 pm – 1 pm

Get your hands dirty and join us for a community garden workday hosted by the Horticulture Club and the Office of Sustainability! This hands-on event will involve weeding, planting, and most importantly, learning! Join us as we delve into gardening tips, discover the importance of community gardens, and learn how they benefit both individuals and the environment. The community garden, located outside of the Walker Science building directly across from the Union, awaits your green thumbs and enthusiastic participation. Hattiesburg Earth Fair

Thursday, April 25, 3 pm-6 pm

Get ready for a celebration of our planet at Town Square Park! Join the City of Hattiesburg for an Earth Fair extravaganza, in collaboration with the Downtown Farmers' Market. Explore a vibrant array of booths representing local organizations dedicated to sustainability, enjoy live music that'll set the perfect atmosphere, and indulge in fresh, locally sourced food that's bursting with flavor. Let's come together for a day of fun, community, and eco-consciousness as we celebrate our shared commitment to a greener future. Don't miss out on this unforgettable event!

Hattiesburg Shred Event

Thursday, April 25, 10 am – 2 pm

Safeguard your sensitive documents with our shredding services, brought to you by Attorney General Lynn Fitch’s office and [Blank Name], at the Bobby L. Chain Airport site! Protect your privacy and prevent identity theft by securely disposing of confidential paperwork. This first-come, first-served service ensures your documents will be shredded until the truck is full, so arrive early to take advantage of this opportunity. Don't miss this chance to declutter responsibly and ensure your personal information stays safe and secure. See you there!

USM Shred Event

Friday, April 26, 10 am – 2 pm

Safeguard your sensitive information and responsibly dispose of electronics at our shredding and electronics drop-off event! Hosted at the Physical Plant, this service is available to both USM and the wider community. Bring your sensitive documents and old electronics for secure shredding and recycling. Remember, it's first-come, first-served until the truck is full, so don't miss out on this opportunity to declutter and protect your privacy. Let's work together to promote sustainability and security in our community!
