Under guidance from the National Center for Teacher Residencies, the USM School of Education offers two teacher residency pathways for aspiring educators:
the Golden Eagle Teacher Residency Program for undergraduates and the Mississippi Teacher Residency Program for graduate students. This fundamentally different approach to training teacher
candidates integrates a year-long mentored teaching experience with academic coursework
that aligns with everyday classroom experiences, allowing graduates to enter their
first full-time jobs with invaluable preparation and a true understanding of what
it takes to be a teacher.
In fall 2023, the School of Education was awarded $2.3 million through a Teacher Quality
Partnership (TQP) grant from the U.S. Department of Education. This funding will allow
for expansion of the Golden Eagle Teacher Residency Program. Click Here to Learn More
