Faculty Communities

Page Content

The Center for Faculty Development hosts several multi-disciplinary faculty communities to support faculty research and interdisciplinary collaboration across campus. Click on each community to find details of the common topic and meeting times.

Weekly, face-to-face meetings are what make ACUE at Southern Miss a unique experience. To extend this community of idea and knowledge sharing regarding teaching and faculty life, ACUE Fellows are invited the third Wednesday of every month to bring their lunch to the Center for Faculty Development where we will gather and discuss best teaching practices. If you are missing the ACUE discussions and your ACUE colleagues, need help thinking through a new idea, or want a refresher on some of the practices you implemented through ACUE, stop by for some of the same thoughtful interdisciplinary conversations you experienced through the ACUE series.

Join the conversation this academic year from 12:15 - 1:00 pm every third Wednesday.

Spring 2020 dates: February 19, March 25 and April 15

The Network of Eagle Scholar Teachers is a community of practice that allows faculty to come together and share best practices. This year NEST is focusing specifically on GEC courses. Please join us the second Wednesday of each month in the Center for Faculty Development to discuss scholarship-based teaching practices relative to various areas of teaching GEC courses including capstone courses, writing intensive courses, and GEC sciences courses. Even if you do not teach GEC courses there will be plenty to learn from these conversations, such as creating course outcomes aligned with objectives and assessments, addressing student motivation and developing transparent assignments.

Come to the NEST (International Center 319) from 12:15 - 1 pm to join the discussion.

Spring 2020 dates and topics:
February 12 – GEC Humanities Courses
March 11 – Speaking Intensive Courses
April 8 – GEC Social Science Courses

Show Up and Write! meets weekly in the Center for Faculty Development (CFD), and provides a quiet open space for dedicated writing time. The writing group aims to support faculty research by designating time for writing and increasing productivity through peer support and personal accountability.  Bring your computer and plan to focus time on writing an article, book chapter, grant proposal, creative work, blog, or other project.

Show Up and Write! will meet every Thursday in the CFD (International Center 319) from 10:30-12:30 p.m. Spring 2020. This session is come-and-go as needed for your schedule, and does not include peer exchange. Faculty members from all disciplines and ranks are welcome to attend.
