2024 Call for Proposals

Rebranded from its previous name of Faculty First Week, in its sixth year, Fall First Week provides time for colleges and schools to meet, engage with campus resources, and learn from one another’s expertise as we prepare for the academic year ahead. Along with the name change, this year’s fall program will see some other updates. This year’s Fall First Week will house all professional development sessions in a half-day Educators’ Retreat on the morning of Monday, August 19th. The Center for Faculty Development also will host two weeks of virtual workshops during the weeks of July 29th and August 5th in our Prepare, Plan, and Engage series that will include sessions focused on strategies, tools, and innovative ideas with time to integrate into your fall courses. 

The Office of the Provost and the Center for Faculty Development invite faculty and staff to submit proposals for our summer series, Prepare, Plan, and Engage and the Fall First Week:

Plan, Prepare and Engage 2024 Plan, Prepare & Engage

When: July 29th – August 9th

Where: Virtual sessions

What: Proposals for professional development workshops, presentations, or coffee chats (i.e., Q &A) that address topics in the broad categories of pedagogy, classroom technology and/or other innovative teaching strategies are preferred.  Sessions may be either 30 or 50 minutes in length.  Presentations that include information or activities that can be implemented into fall courses are preferred.

 

The Educators' RetreatThe Educators’ Retreat

When: Monday, August 19th, from 8:00 a.m. to Noon.

Where: In-person in Liberal Arts Building (LAB) on the Hattiesburg Campus

What: Sessions will be 50 minutes and proposals should be crafted with the expectation of that time frame. Possible topics include informational sessions, sessions on university service, presentations on easy to implement course activities or teaching strategies, research, or other professional development sessions that may be of interest to university faculty and staff.

For all proposals, colleagues may work together to propose a session with multiple presenters, or one person can propose a session that will be for the full time.

Proposals should include:

  • Presenter(s) name
  • Brief 1-3 sentence description that can be included in the series program. The description should include the focus of the presentation and what attendees can expect to learn or gain from the session.
  • Abstract on the details of proposed session and how it will benefit attendees (300 words).

Submit a proposal

Submission Deadline:  May 17, 2024 at 5 pm

All who submit a proposal will be notified by June 7, 2024, whether their submission will be included in either the Prepare, Plan, and Engage series or 2024 Educators’ Retreat during FFW.
