Center for Faculty Development
Our Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Faculty Fellows program brings together instructors from across disciplines as a cohort to engage in the development of scholarly activity around teaching and learning. Fellows will design and conduct scholarly research projects that investigate questions related to their teaching strategies, student learning, curriculum, or program-level initiatives.
The goals of the program are to:
- Enhance teaching practices and student learning
- Promote scholarly approaches to course design, pedagogy, assessment, and evaluation
- Foster a culture of teaching excellence and reflective practice
- Develop skills in SoTL research methodologies and dissemination
- Build community and interdisciplinary connections around SoTL
Over the course of the year-long program, the cohort will:
- Take part in monthly workshops on SoTL foundations, methodologies, literature reviews, IRB protocols, data analysis, and publication/presentation
- Receive individual and group mentoring from experienced researchers
- Develop a scholarly SoTL proposal, conduct their study, and create presentations, article(s), or other dissemination based on their findings
- Become part of a community of scholarly educators at Southern Miss
Faculty from all disciplines interested in enhancing their instruction through systematic
inquiry are encouraged to apply. The program offers an outstanding opportunity to
develop scholarly expertise in teaching and make significant contributions to the
field of SoTL.
The SoTL Faculty Fellows program will begin each January and feature monthly meetings.
Fellows are required to participate in each meeting.
