Students placed on adult admission status must maintain a minimum 2.0 semester and cumulative grade point average for all semesters while on adult status.
This policy is required for the effective communication of university policy regarding admission office suspension.
All members of The University of Southern Mississippi community.
Students who are on adult status must obtain a minimum 2.0 semester and cumulative grade point average for all semesters while on adult status. To continue to enroll on adult status, a student must maintain a minimum of 2.0 grade point average on all Southern Miss courses.
To clear adult status, the student must accomplish the following:
1. Successfully complete your first 12 hours at Southern Miss and
2. Earn a minimum 2.0 semester and cumulative grade point average on your first 12 hours
Students who fail to earn a 2.0 grade point average while on adult status will be suspended from the university. This means the student will have to leave the university and attend another fully accredited institution of higher learning (such as a community/junior college) and reapply to Southern Miss once full transfer admissions requirements have been met. Students will be required to have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.0 (Southern Miss GPA will be factored in when calculating your cumulative grade point average) to be considered for readmission.
*Students who are placed on Admission Office Suspension may appeal the decision. See Admission Appeals Policy at www.usm.edu/institutional-policies/policy-stua-adm-006.
Director of Admissions for Operations is responsible for the review of this policy every four years (or whenever circumstances require immediate review).
