Join us at Lake Thoreau for an exciting overnight adventure all about salamanders
and the hidden world of amphibians. During this hands-on, educational experience,
campers will explore local habitats, learn how salamanders survive and thrive, and
discover why these unique creatures are so important to our ecosystem.
This overnight camp takes place March 13th–14th and runs from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 A.M. the following morning. (Dropoff: 6:00–6:30 P.M. | Pickup: 8:00–8:30 A.M.)
Event Address: 150 Lake Thoreau Rd, Hattiesburg, MS 39402.
It is open to 3rd–5th grade students. Campers will participate in guided activities, nighttime exploration, and engaging science lessons designed to spark curiosity and build confidence outdoors.
The evening includes a snack, and breakfast will be provided the next morning. Campers will sleep indoors in the Lake Thoreau building, so please bring a sleeping bag and any personal overnight essentials.
Cost:
$50 per child
$45 for Friends of Thoreau Members
To reserve your child’s spot, please complete the Registration Form and submit payment using our Online Payment link. Nights at Thoreau can be found under the event category. Space is limited.
What to Bring
- Sleeping bag
- Flashlight
- Water bottle
- Change of clothes
- Change of shoes
- Toiletries (if needed)
- Any necessary medications (must be clearly labeled)
Please label all personal items with your child’s name.
Safety & Supervision
Campers will be supervised at all times by trained Lake Thoreau staff. Safety is our top priority, and all activities are age-appropriate and structured to provide a fun, supportive environment. Emergency contact information and any medical details provided during registration will be kept on file throughout the event.
