After graduating from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1979, Jeff McAdory went to work at The Clarion Ledger/Jackson Daily News as a photographer until 1982.  In 1983, he received a Guggenheim Fellowship and completed a project that documented life in the Mississippi Delta.  He became a photographer at The Commercial Appeal (Memphis) in 1984; he was promoted to picture editor in 1989, the position he held at the time of his induction into the MCJ Hall of Fame in 2007.  He was named Photographer of the Year in 1987 by Scripps Howard Newspapers.  Over the years, The Commercial Appeal has received numerous editing awards, including the Angus McDougall Award for Excellence in Editing and Best Use of Photography.  Mr. McAdory researched and edited the 1993 book I AM A MAN: Photographs of the 1968 Memphis Sanitation Strike and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
