Kurt Brautigam, APR, has more than 30 years of public relations and communications experience serving in a variety of roles in South Mississippi. He is currently manager of member services at Pearl River Valley Electric Power Association, a job he moved to after 4 years as communication and member services director at South Mississippi Electric Power Association. He served as a Distinguished Lecturer in Public Relations at the University of Southern Mississippi’s School of Mass Communication and Journalism, as well as acting as the School’s associate director, from 2006-2008. He was Mississippi Power's manager of external communications from 1998-2006, conducting media relations for that company and acting as its official spokesman. He has also worked in the healthcare industry and, while a student at Southern Miss, he produced television and recruiting projects for the athletic department and worked for several years in radio.

A native of western Pennsylvania, Kurt earned his bachelor’s (Radio, TV & Film, 1986) and master’s (Public Relations, 1989) degrees from the University of Southern Mississippi. He completed his professional accreditation in public relations (APR) in 2008, the same year he received the Professional Achievement Award from the Public Relations Association of Mississippi (PRAM).

He has served in numerous professional and civic service roles throughout the past 30 years, including the USM School of Mass Communications and Journalism Advisory Board and The Campaign for Mass Comm and Journalism fundraising steering committee.
