Carol Bagley McPhail

Carol Bagley McPhail graduated from Southern Miss in 1986 and served as editor of The Student Printz as an undergraduate.  After graduating, she went to work at The Clarion-Ledger, where she served as copy editor, business reporter and then business editor.  She was also editor of Business Alabama Monthly, a statewide business publication for two years.  At the time of her induction into the MCJ Hall of Fame in 2007, Ms. McPhail had worked for the Mobile Press Register for 15 years in various roles, including business reporter and editor, freelance business writer and copy editor.  She was also an editorial writer for the paper from 1993 to 1999 in 1995, she and two colleagues were 1995 Pulitzer Prize finalists for a series of editorials on Alabama’s outdated Constitution.  Ms. McPhail also won a Scripps Howard Foundation National Journalism Award in 1993 for her work on a special project highlighting pollution in Mobile Bay.
