A newspaperman since he was 15 years old, Chuck Kershner has been president and executive editor of the Clinton Courier, a 161-year-old weekly in New York State, since purchasing it in 1992.  During his time at Southern Miss,  he was executive editor of The Student Printz and won the Wall Street Journal’s “Award of Journalistic Excellence.”  After graduation in 1965, he worked for UPI as a photographer and bureau chief, and then oversaw news and public relations at Dartmouth College.  In 1973, he joined Reuters Ltd. Of London where, over the course of 19 years, he was a correspondent, senior editor and news executive involved in covering major national and international stories.  During his time at the Courier, it has consistently earned awards for news, commentary, and photography.  Mr. Kershner also developed an internship program for high school students, many of whom have gone to journalism careers of their own.  He has been an active member of the School of Mass Communication and Journalism Advisory Board, and was inducted into the MCJ Hall of Fame in 2007.
